How far in advance should I book my session?
For the best selection, ASAP is always best. I do a limited amount of sessions each month, and even a more limited amount of newborn sessions. I spend more time editing than I do taking photos. As soon as you know you’re pregnant I would contact me to pre-book a session, but sometimes I can still squeeze in an extra session, so it still never hurts to ask. For a newborn session, the actual date and time is then chosen once baby arrives (as we never know if they’ll be early or late).
Where will it be?
Studio sessions are held at my studio along Waterfront Dr. Lifestyle sessions may be held in your own home in Winnipeg (where I bring very few props, and we mainly use your home, furniture, baby’s nursery and surroundings as the ‘backdrop’). Outdoor sessions are on location in Winnipeg. Extra charge applies for mileage outside of the city.
How many people are included in the photo session?
Sessions include up to 5 people. Additional charge applies for each extra person.
Can I request specific photos be taken (e.g. grandchildren/grandparents, solo of kids.)
Yes, for sure. If you can, please make these requests ahead of time, so that I can plan out my sessions ahead of time to allow session to flow more smoothly.
Can our pets be a part of our photos?
Yes. If you would like your pets included, it’s preferable to have the session outdoors or a lifestyle session in your home. Please let me know before booking your session if you’d like to include your pet!
What do we need to bring?
Please bring clothing and accessories that you’d like to wear for the session, as well as makeup, brush, etc. I do have lots of newborn wraps, hats & hair-bands, as well as a few flowey maternity gown and lacey outfits, so for those sessions there is no need to bring along special outfits for mom or baby, although it’s sometimes nice if you bring a white onesie for newborn, 6 month or 1 year photos. I do also offer hair & makeup for an additional charge.
I know what kind of look I want, but I’m not sure what locations to go to in order to achieve it. Can you suggest options?
Let me know what type of session and look you’re going for, and I’m more than happy to suggest a location that would fit that look.
What should we do to prepare for the session?
Just get yourself ready, and show up. If you’d like special props, clothing, accessories included make sure to have ready or bring along to the session. I have lots of options for maternity and newborn outfits. It also helps looking at photos that you like the look of, and even practice doing those poses. I always will direct you during the session, but it always helps when you have a vision in mind!
What comes with each session?
There is so much that goes into each session, but to sum it up your session includes time of the session, use of my studio, props, accessories, select digitals or prints, plus an in-person viewing session so that I can answer any questions & help you in making decisions. Additional prints and products can then be purchased at a discount (10-30% at your viewing session).
If it rains, do you have a studio to shoot at?
Yes, for any outdoor sessions they may be done in my studio in the exchange as long as it’s available at that time. I need at least 24 hrs. notice for a studio session. Otherwise I can re-schedule the session for the next available time slot that works.
Will these images be posted online or any social networks?
Yes, all images may be used in my online portfolio: on my website & Facebook page. Exception will be made for select sessions. If you are doing a general or newborn session, please notify me if you’d prefer to not have images used online or in my gallery, and arrangements will be made.
Do we have the option to use props?
Yes, I have lots of props available. If you’ve seen something in my photos you’d like to use please let me know so I can prep that item for the session, or I can choose items I think would go well with your session. You are also welcome to bring along your own. Please let me know what items you’ll be bringing so that I can plan them into our session.
How do we go about securing our session?
All sessions require a non-refundable deposit and signed contract for the date and time to be held just for you! Although, with newborn sessions you just choose your due date for now to pre-book along with your non-refundable deposit, and then we pick the date and time of the actual session when baby arrives! Remaining amount of session package plus tax is due on day of session.
The products listed on your site are different from others I’ve seen. Is there any way to get different products?
I have a wide variety of products available, jewelry, albums, canvas, boutique frames, etc. Please inquire about pricing and products if you’d like to see full list of what I have available. If there is something you’d like that you don’t see please inquire from me if it would be possible, and what prices would be.
When is the best time of year to schedule my session?
If you’d prefer an outdoor session, spring, summer or fall work best (although we can still do some wonderful photos in winter!) But for in-studio or lifestyle, any time of year works. Just let me know when you’d like to book a session to see if I’m available.
What time of day is best for a portrait session?
I generally schedule sessions during the day, but will sometimes allow evenings if needed (studio only). For an outdoor session it works best in the morning or late afternoon, as there is less sun in people’s eyes. For a lifestyle session in your home, it works best in the late morning or early afternoon, as we want more light from the sun.
What happens if you’re sick or are unable to shoot the session on the scheduled day?
I am human, so it does happen that I sometimes get sick. If it does, I will then schedule you in for my next available time slot that works with your schedule as well. If it’s something minor I will still do the session, unless it is a newborn session. Their immune systems are so low right now, that I would feel terrible making them sick!! I will always reschedule a newborn session if I feel sick! Of course for a wedding or special event, I will then find an alternative photographer to take photos in my place instead of myself.
How will we know how to pose?
I help and guide you myself throughout the session. Although you’re more than welcome to look up poses ahead of time as well to get an idea of things you could do. I always love if you incorporate yourself & personality into the session, and don’t worry, I’ll still let you know little tweaks you can do to make your pose even better!
How many outfit changes can we have?
For most sessions I allow 1-2 outfit change, although for newborn and baby I allow up to 3.
What if my children act up on the day of the shoot and we can’t get any good photos?
I’m usually good at interacting with kids and babies, and have so far always got good photos from every session (sometimes when I thought I might not have much because children weren’t cooperative, I’ve always ended up getting good photos!) If children aren’t cooperating and I don’t end up getting any good photos, you can choose to pay a second deposit and have a re-shoot of the session. If you think your child might misbehave, try bringing along a small snack to bribe them (Cheerios, light coloured fruit snacks, etc. nothing too sticky or messy!) You can even bring along a couple small toys. I always allow time to take a break or two during the session so they can calm down and get ready for more photos.
I really don’t like “X” about me. Can we shoot around it?
Please let me know ahead of time, but I can change my posing and editing to help work around any things that you might not like. I also use Photoshop and can usually fix any reasonable requests. For more in-depth photoshopping, I will then send out to a re-toucher (who in the end will do a much better job than me) and will only charge you my cost.
Can this session be done at multiple locations?
We can for sure do this if you’d like. It will use up time of session, and possibly an extra mileage fee.
I prefer black and white images. Will you edit them in colour and black and white?
I mainly edit in colour, but at your viewing session you can always choose to order an image in colour or black & white.
Is there an extra fee for creative edits?
It depends on how creative you’d like the photo. If it’s something that doesn’t take too long, then it will be included in the price.
How many photos will I receive?
After each session you’ll have 30-40 images to make your selection. With the basic session package you’ll get the session plus your choice of 5 digitals, 5 gift prints or a $50 print credit. You can also upgrade to the medium package which includes an additional 10 digitals. Or, upgrade to the all-inclusive package which includes the best 30-40 digitals plus a $50 print credit. You can choose to add additional prints or products as well. Digitals are printable up to 8X10. Full resolution digitals may be purchased for an additional charge.
Can I get the raw files or images?
I only ever show the best images from the session. Others were either very similar or not up to par. I want the photos that I give to my clients to reflect my brand. I wouldn’t want a photo that I didn’t feel reflected my brand to be hanging on my clients wall. So, I only ever sell fully edited images, and will never, ever sell or give a client the raw images (even if that client is a photographer, as most clients wouldn’t be able to open or do anything with RAW images anyways). No exceptions will be made, under any circumstances!
Do you offer professional retouching (e.g. zit removal)?
Yes, I do this on each image that you purchase. Extensive retouching is available upon request at an additional charge.
How long does it take to get the photos back?
After your viewing session, it usually takes 3-4 weeks until you have the final product depending on how busy my schedule is. (although during busy times it can be 4-5 weeks). I ALWAYS try to get to each order as quickly as I can, in the order I receive them. I’m just as excited as you for you to see the final product!
What should I/we wear?
Depends on the season. Please contact me as I always have suggestions, or you can check out my Pinterest page as I usually have a board on there with suggestions for the season. You can never go wrong with simple, neutral tones (white, ivory, tan, etc.)
What products do you offer?
I have jewellery, albums, mini-albums, cards, newborn announcements, cards, session boxes (an album like printed box with your fave 30 prints from session), prints, framed prints, canvas, and so much more!
Can the products you offer be customized?
Yes, everything is very customizable, and made just for you when you order!
What if I don’t like my portraits?
If you like the style of the photos I have on my website, I know you will love the photos from your session!! It’s always important to go with a photographer you like the style of, as what you see is what you’ll get.
If we end up needing more time on the day of the session, can it be added on then?
Most of the time extra time may be added on to a session. Usually I find the time for each session is all that’s needed, but if you have a bigger family, or more photo type requests, you can always add more time for an additional fee. If there is more than 5 people involved in the session, please let me know so that I can make sure we’ll have enough time!
What days are you available to shoot portrait sessions?
I’m pretty flexible with the day and time I can book a session. I do a limited number of sessions each month so I can keep up with the editing (which is what takes most of my time) If you know there’s a specific day or month you’d like, book as soon as you can to make sure I’m available! I usually book at least a month in advance.
Can I order more prints/products later?
I don’t guarantee it, but as long as technology does not fail me, I keep the best 30-40 photos for 3 months, and then any photos that you order for up to a year. Any photos ordered after your viewing session will be applicable to the most current pricing and you will not receive the discount that you got from your session package at the viewing session.
Why is your logo on all the photos? Will the logo be on the prints?
My logo is only on photos that I put up on my site, so that anyone that sees it, knows that I am the one that took that photo. Digitals, prints or products that your order will be un-watermarked!
What type of payments do you accept?
I accept payment by cash, cheque, E-transfer, Visa, MasterCard, American Express or PayPal.
